About Me

Describing yourself is one of the most difficult things you can be asked to do, even for a writer.  The reason being that our impression of ourselves rarely matches up with the impressions other people have of us.  It is also inevitable when you are asked to describe yourself that you will have to contemplate the question of what the other person actually wants to know.

In terms of my personal background, I was born in 1988 and although that makes me a "millennial" it also means I'm from that generation that experienced the transition from the last millennium to this one whilst we were still young enough and resilient enough to ride that wave of change and change with it.  I remember when the Web was new, when Dial-up internet was common, and the transition that followed as technology evolved and our dependence on it grew.

I've always had a fascination with computers and everything technological but at the same time I find it intriguing and somewhat seductive to contemplate societies and cultures that exist without it almost entirely.  My major influences with regards to my writing style come from William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll, Roald Dahl, and C.S. Lewis, all of whom come from a time when technology had little influence on their work, and for the majority it didn't even exist yet.  The worlds they created still hold a lustre and a charm that lures the reader in, beckoning you to step inside and put yourself into that world imagining what it would be like.

I am beholden to the irreverent, enamoured with the fantastical, and amused by absurdity. As a child I wanted to be part of the Addams Family, to run away with Alice to Wonderland, to fall in love with Lysander and fall into Fairyland.
